A chicken-fried steak plate and cakewalk to drool over will kick off the 11th annual Inez Volunteer Fire Department fundraiser. The event begins at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Inez Community Center, 2511 Garcitas Creek Road. The dinner plates will be served until 6 p.m., followed by a live auction at 6:30 p.m. and a silent auction from 4 to 7 p.m The plates are sold on a donation scale. Raffle tickets are $25. The night will end with a free dance.

The annual fundraiser helped raise about $35,000 for the fire department last year, coordinator Pat Stuart told the Victoria Advocate, and after draining the department's bank account recently to purchase a new truck, the department is looking to its community for support.

The Inez Volunteer Fire Department has about 24 volunteer responders and covers almost 136 square miles in Inez, including providing mutual aid to Victoria and Jackson counties.
