Officers with the Cuero Police Department responded to an emergency call in the 200 block of East Morgan Avenue at 11:50 p.m. Sunday. Residents of the home said an unidentified Hispanic male forced his way into the home and demanded a woman in the home leave with him, according to a department news release. A man at the home attempted to intervene but told police he was overpowered by the intruder and that a woman sleeping in a bedroom heard the ruckus and retrieved a shotgun with the intention of stopping the fight, reports the Victoria Advocate. The intruder fled when the woman fired the shotgun, according to the release. The woman then chased the man, firing her weapon a second time.

Cuero officers, troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety and deputies with the DeWitt County Sheriff's Office searched the neighborhood with tracking dogs but could not find the suspect.

The suspect is described as a man about 5 feet 10 inches tall with a heavy build. He was wearing a red shirt and blue jeans.

Cuero residents are encouraged to use caution during nighttime hours and to report any persons considered to be suspicious by calling 361-275-5734.
