My name is Lane Johnson and I am an Associate Executive Director at Gulf Bend Center in charge of clinical programs and services.  That’s a fancy way of saying that I oversee a large number of employees who provide direct care, behavioral, and medical services to almost three thousand children, adolescents, adults, and their families who are challenged with problems related to mental illness, life adjustment problems, and intellectual & developmental disabilities.

Does that broad brush leave anyone out?  It’s a bold mission, I know.  But, I don’t apologize.  Nor do I make any excuses when we stumble over our own vision.  In fact, I invite you to join us if any of this intrigues you.  These are exciting times for behavioral health.  We are in an age of integration where primary medical care and behavioral health have crossed paths and discovered that we have one very important thing in common.  We are treating the same person.  And what each of us does has direct impact on the outcomes of the other.

The behavioral health profession is changing fast and growing even faster.  We are learning and retooling on the fly.  We need help and are looking for more champions.  Come see for yourself by attending our next Career Fair.  Every program and department from case management, counseling, nursing, residential care, business administration, and support services will have a table set up for you to visit, ask questions, explore possibilities, and even apply for a job if you like what you see.

The Career Fair is August 21, 2014, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm.  The doors close at 6:30 so anyone who comes will have enough time to look around before closing.  The address is 6502 Nursery Drive, in the M.G. & Lillie A. Johnson Conference Room (second floor).  If you have any questions please contact Lee Schuetz with Human Resources at (361) 575-0611, ext. 338.  If you call ahead and RSVP we will enter your name into a special drawing the day of the event.

But wait, there’s more!

Due to open in January, 2015, is a brand new, state of the art Wellness Community providing the fundamentally important components of health, safe housing, social support, activity, and diet to qualified adults.  Residents will live in a 32-apartment community designed to teach healthy lifestyle behaviors and develop healthy social support and interaction.  Through the delivery of primary and behavioral health care the Wellness Community is an integrated care model that will bring community providers together to partner in teaching healthy behaviors.  People will learn to live well!

We are currently recruiting appropriate providers.  Interested providers are invited to attend an Integrated Provider Forum on Friday, August 22, 2014, at Gulf Bend Center, 6502 Nursery Drive, Room 242.  First Session: 10 am – 12 pm.   Second Session: 2 pm – 4 pm.  This forum will present information about the Wellness Community and how you can become a community provider.   Please call (361) 575-0611 for more information.

Whether it’s our Career Fair or the Integrated Provider Forum you are invited to join us in promoting healthy people and healthy communities.
