George Strait was set to perform at the 2013 CMT Music Awards tonight (June 5), but the death of his father has forced him to cancel.

John Byron Strait died on Tuesday at the age of 91.

Strait had just finished his 2013 touring commitments, wrapping up the first leg of the of the two-year Cowboy Rides Away Tour on Saturday night in San Antonio. John Strait had been hospitalized for a month, according to a statement from the singer's representatives.

It has not been announced who will fill Strait's performance slot at the awards show. Jason Aldean will host for the first time, also performing his new single 'Night Train.' In addition, he'll sing with rocker Lenny Kravitz.

Keith Urban, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Hunter Hayes, Luke Bryan and the Pistol Annies are a few of the other performers. Bryan, Eric Church and Miranda Lambert lead all nominees with four each. The 2013 CMT Music Awards start at 8PM ET.

A private funeral for John Strait will be held on Thursday.
