The Victoria County Czech Heritage Society is sponsoring "A Czech Cultural Weekend" with Daniela Sipkova Mahoney on Nov. 8-10 at the Victoria Mall community room next to Sears. The Cultural Weekend begins at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 8 with registration, followed at 6 p.m. with a presentation on Czech Christmas traditions and customs. The Cultural Weekend resumes at 9 a.m. Nov. 9 with a workshop on making Christmas tree ornaments from wheat, dough and paper as well as your own Christmas cards.

At 1 p.m., Saturday, Sipkova will hold a workshop on egg decorating traditions. Attendants will be taught four methods of egg decorating, including wax resistant, engraving, blue ink painting and dip pull. At 1 p.m. Nov. 10, there will be a presentation on Czech Easter traditions and customs. The final workshop "Teach the Teacher" will be from 2-5 p.m. in which Sipkova will teach attendees how to teach others the Czech tradition of egg decorating and making Christmas ornaments.

Because of limited space, only the first 30 people registered will be accepted. Registration fees for the complete weekend are $55/adults, $40/youths 17 years and under with a $5 per person discount if registered before Friday. Individual workshops can be attended for $18.50/adult and $12.50/youth. Parents and grandparents are encouraged to attend with their children and grandchildren exposing them to this culture and art.
