The 30th annual Christmas in Goliad kicks off at 5:30 p.m. Friday with handmade arts and crafts, choral music and dancing in the square. At 7 p.m., the parade begins with a living Nativity scene. "We try to put Christ back in Christmas here," Heard told the Victoria Advocate. She said the lighted parade is open to everybody. As of Tuesday, there were 47 entries. "Some people put lights on their dog and walk their dog," Heard said.

The festivities continue all day Saturday. At noon, Santa makes his grand entrance atop a longhorn steer. Children are welcome to have their picture taken on the steer, Heard said.

The two-day event is free other than the food and crafts for sale in booths in the square, she said. "We all love Goliad, and we just want people to come and have a good time," Heard said.
