Mother Nature threw Australian residents a curve ball Monday when four waterspouts, well, sprouted off the New South Wales coast.

Cameras caught the stunning - and admittedly scary-looking - event, which occurred just north of Sydney. (A local news station claimed the spouts reached upwards of 600 meters, or nearly 2,000 feet.)

Check out video footage of the waterspouts after the jump.

Watch Lightning Strike a Plane [VIDEO]

Last weekend, an Emirates Airbus 380 was struck by a jagged bolt of lightning as it began its descent into London's Heathrow Airport. Luckily, none of the passengers aboard were harmed, and the plane made it safely to the ground.

Believe it or not, airplanes generally sustain a couple of lightning strikes per year, and are designed so that their bodies act as a conductor, allowing the lightning to pass through without causing any damage.

What made this particular lightning strike different was that it was caught on video. Read on to see this latest jolt from Mother Nature plus other crazy lighting attacks from the past.

Russian Military Controls an Avalanche With Heavy Artillery [VIDEO]

The Russians aren't afraid to use the big guns in their war against avalanches.

Vladikavkaz, a region in Southern Russia, is plagued by spring avalanches, so the army uses its heavy artillery to create smaller controlled avalanches which avoid Vladikavkaz's main highway.

Using ordnance for avalanche control is actually a fairly common technique around the world, including in the United States.

This is the best video we've seen of the practice, however, and it includes a bonus at the end when the avalanche tries to strike back!

Check it out after the jump.

Springtime is Here!

I am so happy it's almost spring time. You know what that means! Time to get outdoors and soak up the sunshine. I have to agree with my cousin Sarah in that I love driving by and seeing all these kids playing baseball. It's so rewarding to watch the kids advance from the first practice to the last game; from the kid who picked flowers in the outfield to catching the pop fly at the final game.

One of my girlfriends, Monica, enjoys the wildflowers, sunshine, time spent at the Riverwalk, rodeo, and just generally being outdoors. When she mentioned wildflowers, it reminded me of Easter time and how my mom would put my twin sister and me in matching dresses with our Easter baskets and then go find the prettiest wildflowers to take a photo by.
