While I was not 'raised' on Polka music (as so many here in South Texas have been), I must say I had a blast playing at the 3rd annual (and my 2nd-ever) Polka show at the Flag City Opry last night! Man, when you've got 3 or 4 horns (trumpets/saxes) playing along with the band, it sounds HUGE! I've come to realize that Czech/German Polka, Mexican Norteño, and much of Western Swing are all rooted in that same, strong, danceable 2-beat rhythm; with the occasional waltz thrown in so dancers can catch their breath! Music--in any language--feeds the soul!

BBB: Save on Back-to-School Shopping During the Tax-free Weekend

Bombers Sweep The Generals

Bryan, TX - The Generals traveled to Cellucor field to take on the Brazos Valley Bombers, as Wednesday was game two of the series.  Armando Arevalo was the losing pitcher. He played the whole game for the Generals, giving up 3 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 3.

The Generals got things started in the first inning when Cedric Vallieres came across to score to make it 1-0.

Generals Fall in Extra Innings

Bryan, TX - Ty Schlottmann and Heston VanFleet dueled for six innings tonight. Chris Jones threw well in relief, but the Generals were edged, 4-3, in extras in the series opener against the league-leading Bombers.

The Generals jumped on the board first in the top of the second. Tanner Hill led off the inning with a single, moved to third on another single from Blake Cooper, and crossed the plate on C.J. Pickering's sacrifice fly to right.

Specialty Plates Drive $25M to Texas General Revenue

The state’s specialty license plate vendor, License Plates of Texas, LLC, operating as MyPlates.com has met its current contract $25,000,000 revenue obligation to the State of Texas, four months ahead of schedule.

In November 2009, My Plates was awarded a contract by TxDMV to market and sell specialty plates. The contract was authorized by the Texas legislature as a way to raise money for state services at no cost to taxpayers and guaranteed the state a return of $25M over five years.
