Listen: “Lost” Johnny Cash/Waylon Jennings Duet

"The Man in Black," Johnny Cash, passed away on September 12, 2003. From 1958 until the mid-1980's, he was one of Columbia Records' biggest-selling acts. However, when his sales began to taper off in the mid-80's, he was unceremoniously dropped from that label.  In his final years, he recorded a large body of songs for what became known as the "American" albums, named after the label for which they were recorded, Rick Rubin's American Recordings. Those albums gave Cash's career a boost as he entered his twilight years.

Folk Legend Pete Seeger Dead at 94

Pete Seeger says he lost his heart to the banjo when he was just a teenager. It happened at a mountain dance festival in North Carolina. It was the mid '30s, and he was with his father. “There was a kind of honesty in country music that I didn't find in pop music,” he would say later. The moment inspired Seeger, who died on Monday (Jan. 27) at the age of 94, to become one of the most influential voices of the century.

A Piece Of Country Music History

Folks who know me know that I really LIKE Country music! From the days of playing in my first Country bands to becoming a Country radio personality, I've been a serious 'student' of the music, its history, and the people who make it. Certain places, instruments and artifacts connected with Country's rich history are almost "sacred" to me. In the mid-1990's, I worked on the air in Bakersfield, CA at a station owned by the late, great Buck Owens. One of Buck's biggest--and most beloved--hits with his band, The

Study: Drummers Are ‘Natural Intellectuals’

I love it when science and medicine confirm something I've known most of my life! I hate to brag, but hey...this was a scientific study, and who am I to argue with scientists; especially when their conclusions serve to boost my ego a little? If you know (or are yourself) a drummer, this will make your day!

Are Vinyl Records Making A Comeback?

Yes, I'm old enough to remember vinyl records...I still have a bunch, and a turntable on which to play them! I've always thought vinyl sounded better than just about anything they've come up with over the years! Check out this article, and the surprising new statistics regarding good ol' vinyl records!
