Being a drummer, I've heard all of the jokes. I've also been told at times that my brain wasn't "quite right." Well, according to a scientific study, it's apparently true...but in a good way. I've always tried to be a problem-solver, and this study shows that trait is part and parcel with being able to lay a solid groove "in the pocket." But, hey...don't take my word for it; read the article and see why I have just gotten a nice, big shot of self-esteem.
You've gotta hand it to Brad Paisley. He can find the humor in just about any situation. It seems the Westboro "Baptist" Church folks (you know, those loving folks who protest at fallen military personnel's funerals, among other things) decided to protest one of Brad's concerts recently. Brad took a hilarious selfie that you've just got to see!

Here's a video from the Flag City Opry performance on 5/20/14. It's one of my favorite old Willie Nelson songs, "You Ought To Hear Me Cry." Willie wrote and recorded this one back in the 1960's, when he was signed to the RCA Victor label. I wasn't released as a single until 1977. Two years prior, in 1975, Willie had released "Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain" from his Columbia Records smash debut album, Red-Headed Stranger.

Some tech blogs are speculating on the possible discontinuation of the product that launched Apple into the stratosphere, and sparked a revolution in both the personal electronics and music industries: the iPod. Unit sales have declined over the last couple of years, as more and more smartphones (with music storage and playing capabilities) make up a larger and growing share of the market. Could the venerable iPod's days be numbered?

Kyle Park is returning to Schroeder Hall this Saturday, May 17th. I'll have ticket info for the show at the end of this blog post. Kyle's new single, "Long Distance Relationship," is a beautifully-written song; but the accompanying video is sure to touch your hear, and maybe even bring a tear to your eyes (it did that to me).
As part of the Crossroads Community Band's 2014 Spring Concert Series, this concert will feature both the Victoria Civic Choir, under the direction of Dr. Marylynn Fletcher, and the Crossroads Community Band
