Vince Gill & Paul Franklin: “Bakersfield”

July 30th is the date set for the release of the new album from Vince Gill with ace studio steel guitarist Paul Franklin. The album is titled, "Bakersfield," and as the title implies, the songs Vince and Paul have covered for this set were chosen from the two biggest artists associated with the "Bakersfield Sound," Merle Haggard and the late Buck Owens.

1960: Loretta Lynn made her debut on the country charts with her first single release, "Honky Tonk Girl," on the Zero label.

1976: Country Music Hall of Fame member Eddy Arnold entered the charts with "Cowboy," his 100th country hit.  He was the first artist to accumulate a three-digit figure of hits on that chart.

1982: George Strait's first number one single, "Fool Hearted Memory," was released. George recently scored his 60th chart-topper.
