It's that time of year! Time to put in that spring/summer garden. Here is a chance do learn how to do it right... especially if you're putting in a 'container' garden. Anne McReynolds of Devereux Gardens is presenting a program on container gardening at 7pm this evening at 411 N. Wells Street in Edna. She will also bring flowers and vegetables to purchase.

The 14th Annual Texana Chili Spill will be held November 6-8 at the Brackenridge Recreation Complex Main Event Center, sponsored by the Lavaca-Navidad River Authority and the Jackson County Go-Texan Committee. This year’s event will include a Veterans Ceremony, an Appreciation Dinner, and a fireworks display on Thursday, November 7 beginning at 5:00 p.m.

The Jackson County Youth Fair kicks off Saturday with a parade through downtown Edna. From first responders with area fire departments to student marching bands, more than 80 entries are expected to participate in the longest running parade in the county. This year marks the 65th anniversary, said Dee Darilek, event organizer.

The Edna High School Class of 1954 will hold it's 60th class reunion on Friday, October 3, 2014 at the Edna Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall.

The Eleanor Brackenridge Literary Club is hosting the fifth annual Trivia Night at 7 p.m. March 28 in the Jackson County Services Building in Edna. The group hopes to raise more than $5,000 for county schools scholarships.

On Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, I made my debut as the "official" drummer for the Flag City Opry band in Edna, TX. It is truly an honor to get to play with such a fine group of musicians, and to get to back up all of the great singers and guests on the show!
