It's almost that time again. Crossroads cowboys and cowgirls will soon gather their teams to saddle up and prove their skills in the arena during the annual Saddle Up for Alzheimer's Event from Aug. 15 to 17 at the Brackenridge Main Event Center, 284 Brackenridge Parkway, in Edna. This event grows larger every year. It's a great chance to see local cowboys and cowgirls do what they do best and support an important cause. But this competition is more than belt buckles and prizes. It's about working toward a cure. The mission of Saddle Up For Alzheimer's is to raise money to assist in research for a cure and improvement of treatments as well as raise awareness for the fight against Alzheimer's and dementia.

According to the Victoria Advocate, the 2014 Alzheimer's Association Facts and Figures Report shows that $214 billion is the estimated direct cost of caring for those with Alzheimer's this year, and Alzheimer's is the sixth-leading cause of death in this country.

Team roping will kick off the event at 7 p.m. Aug. 15. Then Aug. 16, the action begins with an Ironman Cowhand at 10 a.m., followed by the Ranch Rodeo long-go at 2 p.m. and short-go at 7 p.m., with live music by the band Horizon from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Aug. 17, cowboy church is at 8:30 a.m., and the barrel race starts at 9 a.m.
