Native Oklahoman Blake Shelton moved quickly to organize a benefit concert for his home state and the town of Moore, which was battered by a deadly tornado on Monday (May 20).

A day after the devastating storm, the singer announced that he would be putting a show together and rallied the troops. A mere eight days later, it will happen, since time is of the essence when it comes to natural disasters and mending the destruction they leave behind.

“Everyone has their way to help, and mine as an entertainer is to perform to help raise money and awareness for this tragedy,” Shelton says in a press release.

The show will take place Wednesday, May 29 at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City. He adds, “This is why I want to do this special and especially hold it in Oklahoma City, which is near ground zero.”

Miranda Lambert, Reba McEntire and Vince Gill will join Shelton as performers, with more artists TBA. Dubbed ‘Healing in the Heartland: Relief Benefit Concert,’ the charity event will be broadcast live on NBC — the same network which employs Shelton as a coach on ‘The Voice.’ It will also air live or delayed on cable networks Style, G4, E!, Bravo and CMT and will act as a telethon, with the option for viewers to make donations while they’re tuned in.

Tickets for seeing the benefit show in person will go on sale Saturday (May 25) at 10AM via Ticketmaster. They will start at $25, with proceeds going to the United Way of Central Oklahoma May Tornadoes Relief Fund. The group will use the contributions for immediate and long-term recovery efforts in the Moore area.

On Thursday (May 23), Shelton shared a link on his Facebook page asking fans to help give to the community by simply hitting ‘share.’ For every share in a 24-hour period, jcpenney promised to give $1 to the American Red Cross to aid in the relief effort, up to $50,000. At press time, Shelton’s post alone had over 66,000 shares on the social media site.

Want to help? Make a $10 donation by texting REDCROSS to 90999, or call 1-800-REDCROSS.
