Is anything more patriotic than hanging out on the National Mall on Independence Day? Probably not. That’s exactly where Josh Turner will be on the Independence Day this year. Along with actor Matthew Broderick, composer John Williams and a number of Olympic athletes, Turner will perform a portion of the program, which is known as ‘A Capitol Fourth.’
You’ll have to wait until tomorrow (June 19) to buy Kenny Chesney‘s latest album, ‘Welcome to the Fishbowl,’ but if you’ve been dying to hear the award-winning singer’s 12 new tracks, you’re in luck. Chesney has made the entire disc available for streaming online.
Last Sunday (June 10), Little Big Town‘s 6th Annual Ride for the Cure event took place in Franklin and Columbia, Tenn. Unfortunately, the motorcycle ride was canceled due to a bad rainstorm, but the popular country act still managed to help raise more than $55,000 to help research cures for cancer, Leukemia, and AIDS.
Zac Brown Band is going to take the stage for a gigantic audience on July 9, when they play the State Farm Home Run Derby. The event is part of the Major League Baseball All-Star game, but before the best of baseball players face off against each other in a nine-inning game, the league’s biggest hitters will see who can hit the most home runs. The derby will air live on ESPN, and Zac Brown Band will be the lucky country stars to play their hits for a national audience.
Ever since Blake Shelton debuted his new single ‘Over’ on ‘The Voice,’ we’ve been anxiously awaiting more from the hilariously up-front country star. The wait is over. This morning, Shelton’s new video for the song debuted on CMT as a part of a 30-minute program called ‘Diary of a Director: Blake Shelton’s ‘Over.”
Taylor Swift gets a lot of press for doing nice things, but on Monday (June 11) she received a formal award for her good deeds. The starlet was handed the 2012 Honorary Star of Compassion award by the Northwest Tennessee Disaster Services, a Tennessee nonprofit group dedicated to disaster relief and education.
If there’s any country star who knows how to dream big, it’s Dolly Parton. With her roots stemming from rural East Tennessee, Parton grew up an impoverished youth in the Appalachian mountains. Now that she has spent decades at the top of the country music scene, she’s ready to impart some of the wisdom she gained on her journey to other dreamers.
If you follow Blake Shelton on Twitter, you know that ‘The Voice’ coach and country star has a reputation for tweeting after he’s had a few too many drinks–and he’s not shy about connecting with attractive women. We’ve all wondered at some point if Shelton’s behavior bothers his sometimes sweet, sometimes fiery country star wife, Miranda Lambert. Turns out, if her hubby’s feed becomes too much to handle, Lambert just unfollows him!
Thanks to a hip-shaking performance at the CMA awards, Luke Bryan caught the attention of fellow country stars Lady Antebellum. Lady A’s Charles Kelley voiced his opinion that the ‘Drunk on You’ singer should be the next country celeb to take the stage on ‘Dancing With the Stars.’
Only Willie Nelson could cover a Pearl Jam tune and make it sound darn close to better than the original. That’s what the iconic singer did with his version of ‘Just Breathe,’ which is included on his new ‘Heroes’ album. As an added bonus, the track features the guest vocals of the singer’s son, Lukas Nelson. As if you didn’t already love the song enough, the Nelsons released a beautiful music video for ‘Just Breathe’-and it’s kind of a tearjerker.
Here’s another one for the ‘Taylor Swift is an awesome person’ file. For her latest act of kindness, Miss Swift will make 12-year-old Brittney Kuhl’s dreams come true by meeting her in person. Like most girls her age, Brittney idolizes the award-winning country star. Only, her story is a little different: The talented singing and dancing adolescent has a life-threatening heart condition.
This summer, plenty of country music fans will both remember and mourn the Indiana State Fair tragedy. In August of 2011, the fair stage collapsed before a Sugarland performance, killing seven people and injuring dozens more. Since the accident, Sugarland’s Kristian Bush and Jennifer Nettles have been wrapped up in depositions and legal proceedings for a trial that will determine who is responsible for the stage collapse.
