Carrie Underwood and her husband, hockey player Mike Fisher, are revered by teens across the country for their success in their respective careers. This week, the celebrity couple used that platform and took a minute to speak out for teen mental health. In support of the youth-driven organization D.I.F.D. (Do It For Daron), which works to raise awareness and get people talking about teen mental health, Underwood and Fisher appeared in a PSA reminding teens that they are highly valued and that they have hope.
You may know that Kenny Chesney makes an appearance with a host of country stars on Lionel Richie’s ‘Tuskegee‘ new country duets record, but do you know exactly how the ‘You and Tequila’ singer actually landed his spot on the album? While the two stars are good friends who each seem to really respect one another’s work, this collaboration actually began with a drunk dial.
As the president of Farm Aid, it’s no secret that Willie Nelson is a supporter of family farmers across the nation, and the country legend also recently spoke up in support of the Occupy Wall Street movement. But there’s another — perhaps less championed — cause that Nelson cares deeply about, and that’s making sure animals have a good home and are treated well. The ‘Always on My Mind’ singer recently rescued two neglected horses from an abusive environment.
In honor of the 2012 ACM Awards festivities, the ‘Today’ Show has gone country this week. With scheduled appearances by Randy Travis, Lee Brice, Josh Turner and Kellie Pickler spread out throughout the remainder of the days leading up to April 1, Lauren Alaina took the ‘Today’ stage this morning (March 26) to perform her high-energy single ‘Georgia Peaches‘ for ‘Today’ Show hosts Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford.
CBS’ afternoon talk show ‘The Talk’ is getting a bit of a country makeover — but only for one week. In honor of the 2012 Academy of Country Music Awards, the show, which stars hosts Sharon Osbourne, Julie Chen, Leah Remini and Sheryl Underwood, is going country. The hosts will invite a cast of celebrity country acts to come perform, co-host and, well, talk with them during the week leading up to the 47th Annual ACM Awards.
If there’s one thing ‘American Idol‘ seems to love as much as discovering the newest talent, it’s inviting their alums back for a moment in the spotlight. It’s always so incredible to how performers who were once anxious hopefuls develop into such poised, self-assured stars in no time. Next week, the past ‘Idol’ winner who will be coming back to show off how he’s changed in a year is Scotty McCreery, and he’ll be joined by rap princess Nicki Minaj.
Trisha Yearwood will be joining forces with other artists from a variety of genres to perform in the benefit show, A Celebration of Paul Newman’s Dream, on April 2. In the company of fellow performers Paul Simon and Josh Groban, among others, Yearwood will take the stage of New York City’s Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center for the show that will benefit Paul Newman’s Association of Hole in the Wall Camps.
The list of performers for the 2012 ACM Awards continues to grow, with some of the biggest names in country being tacked on as entertainment as the 47th annual event draws nearer. The Academy of Country Music just announced that Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood and Sara Evans are the newest performers slated to make an appearance on the live telecast, which will air from Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena on April 1.
Yep, it’s true. If you were hoping this celebrity couple would hire you as their live-in laundress, your dreams have just been shattered. Blake Shelton, who is about as down-home country guy as they come, says he and wife Miranda Lambert will not be hiring someone anytime soon to do their dirty work — their dirty laundry, that is. But that doesn’t mean the ‘Honey Bee’ singer particularly enjoys the task. Hitting Twitter last month, Shelton conveyed how he really feels about the matter.
Everyone’s been talking about ‘The Hunger Games’ for months, and now fans everywhere are just days away from the premiere of the post-apocalyptic film based on Suzanne Collins’ bestselling book. Even so, those who absolutely can’t wait until Friday can hold themselves over with the film’s soundtrack, which drops today (March 20). Featuring artists like Taylor Swift, Miranda Lambert and the Civil Wars, the soundtrack is a star-studded musical endeavor with a country tinge, set to perfectly fit the film.
This morning (March 20), Keith Urbantweeted about a video that he ran across on YouTube that impacted him. Interestingly enough, it was a cover of one of his songs — done entirely by a 10-year-old boy named Carson Lueders. With his acoustic guitar in tow and his brother Jackson keeping a steady beat behind him on a drum kit, Lueders performed Urban’s ‘For You’ from the Navy SEALs film ‘Act of Valor.’
While the members of Zac Brown Band have tasted commercial success in the past few years, they’ve also each experienced something else entirely new: parenthood. Perhaps this is partially what drew the band’s guitarist Coy Bowles to pen his first children’s book, “Amy Giggles: Laugh Out Loud.” Speaking on HLN yesterday morning (March 16), Bowles elaborated on the origins of the anti-bullying book, as well as his hopes for its future.
