Hope Child Advocacy Center, which serves the sexually and physically abused children in the community, will host auditions for an upcoming dinner theater fundraising event March 27 and 28. The production will be "Hi-Hat Hattie" by Larry Parr. This one-woman show is a musical biography of Hattie McDaniel, reports Laura Garcia for  the Victoria Advocate. The play shows more in the life and career of this actor-singer than winning an Academy Award for the role of Mammy in "Gone with the Wind." The show deftly blends the biographical information with songs associated with McDaniel.

The nonprofit is seeking an African-American actress-singer for the lead role and a pianist who can play and enjoys music from the 1930s-1950s, according to a news release from the center. Auditions will be at the Hope Child Advocacy Center, 111 N. Glass St. Auditions will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.

Bring a prepared song and be ready to read script. Scripts for the audition may be picked up in advance at the center.
