The annual Yoakum FFA and 4-H Livestock Show kicks off Friday at the Yoakum Rodeo Arena, 1803 N. South St. The number of entries for this year's event are about the same as last year, with a slight increase in the breeding animal categories, Yoakum High School Ag teacher Christie Michalcik told the Victoria Advocate.

Seventy-five students are taking part in this year's event. In the market show, there will be seven pens of broilers, 15 goats, 17 pens of rabbits, 27 hogs and six steers. Weigh-in begins at 1 p.m. Friday with goats, followed by steers, rabbits and hogs. The broiler check-in and show begins at 5:30 p.m. The goat show is scheduled for 7 p.m., followed at 8 p.m by rabbits. On Saturday, the market hogs and breeding gilts will show at 8 a.m., and steers and heifers will show at 10:30 a.m. The awards ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. followed by the auction at 7 p.m.
