October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Citizens Medical Center along with its Project Pink partner Victoria Advocate are doing their part in promoting Breast Cancer Awareness by co-sponsoring the annual Citizens Medical Center Walk for Hope.
Citizens Medical Center began the Walk for Hope in 2005 after the death of one of its valued employees from breast cancer. The inspiration for the walk came from a quilt she made with the words Faith, Hope, Love and Courage sewn on it. These four cornerstones of the breast cancer movement have remained at the heart of the walk. Attendees celebrate the courage and strength of the survivors, the faith and love of families and friends in the fight together, and the hope that we will have a cure one day soon.

Check in for the Walk begins at 8 a.m. Saturday, followed at 9 a.m. by the opening ceremonies and walk. Breast cancer survivors will lead the way after taking their Victory Lap. Walkers can choose to walk for as long as they want. Proceeds from the $5 registration fee will fund Citizens Medical Center’s free screening mammogram program and will help fund care packages for our cancer patients. The first 100 people to register will receive a commemorative t-shirt. Those who would like to register for the walk or who need more information can call 361- 572-5064.
