Students at the University of Houston-Victoria showed their generosity last month by donating nearly $7,000 to the Food Bank of the Golden Crescent, as part of National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week.

In addition, the students also volunteered at the food bank, cooking dinner at Christ's Kitchen, and donating their own meals. The awareness week ran from November 14th through the 22nd, and students donated 1,374 meals to the cause.

University Civic Engagement Student Director Ashley Yaws said the generosity "was tremendous."

Officials said this years totals more than doubled what was donated last year.
