The 61st annual Blessing Day will be May 4 in downtown Blessing on Farm-to-Market Road 616 complete with raffle, barbecue lunch and a parade down Main Street. All proceeds are used for scholarships for Tidehaven High School seniors. The event used to be called Blessing Homecoming, reports the Victoria Advocate, because it was a day for people who grew up in the town and had moved away to return and visit with friends and relatives. This still happens to this day. Many old friends come back to visit with others and enjoy the fellowship.

A barbecue plate will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. You may dine in the air-conditioned Blessing Community Center Building or eat outside at a picnic table under the trees or the pavilion or take your plate home. A parade will begin at 2 p.m. There will be booths with crafts, games, rides, drinks and food for sale throughout the day. All the proceeds will be used for scholarships.

For booth information, contact Aven Rhoades at 361-588-7424 (answering machine) or 367-588-6500 Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
